Innovation strategy · Austin, Texas
Give every technology decision an owner.
Wexumi provides industrial innovation strategy for industrial companies in the United States. We turn competing technical options into a decision memo that names the work, the dependencies and the point at which to stop.
Price basis: Decision scope, stakeholder interviews, and depth of the decision memo. Inquiry-only. Scope and fees are agreed after a conversation, not quoted by this page.

Buying a sensor is easy to propose. Establishing who acts on its reading, and whether the machine can be accessed to fit it, takes actual work. Those questions belong in the strategy before the purchase request.
Our industrial innovation consulting starts with the decision your team must make: proceed with a bounded test, compare another route, defer investment or stop pursuing the option. We put the existing approach beside the alternatives. Doing nothing has consequences, but it is still an option and belongs in the comparison.
The memo separates observations from estimates. If a supplier describes a capability that has not been demonstrated on your material, that remains a supplier claim. If maintenance cannot confirm an access window, installation timing remains a dependency. Neither becomes a fact because a presentation needs a clean timeline.
| Decision boundary | An agreed operating question and the investment or testing decision it supports. |
|---|---|
| Working inputs | Available operating evidence, prior assessments and interviews with the people who own the affected work. |
| Output | A decision memo with options, evidence gaps, accountable owners, dependencies and stop conditions. |
| Review point | A review with the decision owner before the recommendation becomes the basis for further work. |
| Commercial basis | Decision scope, stakeholder interviews, and depth of the decision memo. Additional investigation is scoped explicitly. |
Industrial innovation strategy
Industrial innovation strategy, written as a decision memo.
Read the recommendation from the bottom up as well as the top down. If the next action cannot be assigned, the strategy is not ready for approval.
Decision record
- 01 / Decision
- State the choice in operational terms. For example, decide whether a retrofit deserves a controlled plant trial rather than asking whether the company should “adopt automation.” Name the person authorized to make that choice and the information they need.
- 02 / Baseline
- Describe the current process and the limits of the evidence. Record the units used, the operating conditions represented and the source of the observations. A downtime figure in minutes per shift cannot be compared directly with a supplier figure in cycles per hour.
- 03 / Options
- Compare credible routes against the same boundary. Include modification of the existing process where it is plausible. Distinguish a reversible bench test from a plant change that commits scarce maintenance time or makes rollback difficult.
- 04 / Dependencies
- Attach each unresolved dependency to an owner. Access clearance, utilities, material availability and partner data rights can determine the route before technical performance does. A missing dependency is not a low score; it is a question that still needs an answer.
- 05 / Stop conditions
- Write down what would make the recommendation change. An unverified interface, an unacceptable operating burden or a test that cannot distinguish improvement from noise may justify stopping. The threshold is agreed for the project, not borrowed from a generic scoring template.
- 06 / Next authorization
- Specify the bounded activity being requested, its accountable owner and the evidence due at the next review. Approval to investigate is not approval to procure. The memo makes that separation visible.
This is the structure of the deliverable, not evidence of a completed engagement. Project-specific measures and responsibilities are set with the client.

Dependencies before a roadmap
A good option can still be the wrong next move.
A retrofit may perform well on a sample and still be unsuitable for the next production window. The issue could be service clearance around a guard, washdown exposure or a control interface that the current team cannot maintain. Industrial feasibility assessment needs those constraints in view before a date is put against implementation.
We distinguish technical uncertainty from organizational delay. A trial can resolve whether an optical method sees a surface defect. It cannot resolve who has authority to release the machine for testing. Those are different assignments and should not share a vague “engineering” owner.
- 01
Give operations a real decision
Ask which process boundary can be interrupted and what must remain unchanged. Throughput alone may hide a growing inspection burden or a maintenance task that transfers work to the next shift.
- 02
Put partner commitments in writing
A willingness to talk is not a commitment to provide samples or test capacity. The memo distinguishes confirmed access from proposed support, including the evidence needed before an external dependency can be treated as available.
- 03
Keep assumptions visible
If the operating baseline covers only one material grade, do not apply it silently to every grade. State the limitation next to the recommendation and assign the work needed to test its importance.
- 04
Make stopping an ordinary outcome
A stop condition protects the remaining budget from a weak route. It should describe evidence that invalidates the next step, not punish a team for finding an inconvenient result.
Sequence of work
From competing views to an authorized next step.
- 01
Set the decision
At scoping, identify the decision owner and the boundary. Agree which questions the engagement will answer, which are outside it and what information can be shared.
- 02
Test the options
During evidence review and interviews, compare the alternatives against the same constraints. Record contradictory accounts rather than smoothing them into agreement.
- 03
Draft the memo
Once the evidence gaps are visible, set out the recommendation and its conditions. Assign dependencies to people or roles with authority to resolve them.
- 04
Review the gate
At the agreed decision review, confirm what can proceed and what remains blocked. Record the next authorization separately from a future scale-up ambition.
Timing is agreed around access to evidence and stakeholders. A requested decision date is a planning constraint, not a delivery promise made by this website.
Before commissioning
Use strategy when the choice is real.
This work fits a company with a decision to make and people who can act on it. You do not need a settled answer. You do need access to the operating question and willingness to examine a preferred option.
Already have a roadmap? We can scope a decision memo around the disputed investment rather than rewrite the whole document. A narrow question can be enough. If nobody can explain the underlying production issue, manufacturing process diagnosis is a better starting point than another strategy exercise.
A strategy engagement does not replace detailed engineering or site safety approval. It is also not a presentation service for a decision already made. If the only acceptable recommendation is to approve the favored technology, the evidence-led scope is not a fit.
Where the uncertainty is mainly outside capability, technology and partner search can establish which routes deserve comparison. Once the decision is to test, pilot planning and implementation support carries the boundary into a practical gate. A funding route can then be framed through grant and non-dilutive funding support without making the funding application the strategy.
Scope the decision, not the slide count
Bring the choice your team cannot yet make.
Tell us which operating question is holding the decision open and who needs to approve the next step. An initial description is enough; keep confidential drawings and plant records out of the public inquiry.
Wexumi scopes industrial innovation strategy by decision breadth, stakeholder interviews and the depth of the written memo. Any additional technical investigation or implementation support is agreed separately.
Advisory services are inquiry-only. Sending an inquiry does not book work or create a binding quote. Engagement commitments belong in a written agreement.
